Training Institute in Neurologic Music Therapy®

This course completely transformed my career and reshaped my perspective on Music Therapy. Even though I already hold a Bachelor’s degree and had previously explored the neurological aspects of music therapy, it was always a dream of mine to take this specific program. When I finally discovered it, it was a dream come true. The course was incredible. I learned so much every single day—in fact, living here in Brazil, I immediately went ahead and bought the book, which I already have with me. Every lecture was deeply rewarding; and although it was intense and exhausting, it was a true turning point in my life.

I have always been interested in the association between music and the brain. This training moved me to apply NMT™ with my patients, and I have witnessed the great benefits they get through it! I absolutely believe NMT™ must be encouraged in clinical practice!

The training is well-organized, offering both a wealth of information and the opportunity to work with colleagues from around the world. It provides invaluable access to the latest research and techniques.

Participating in the Neurologic Music Therapy® training has been a deeply transformative experience. The rigorous, evidence-based framework perfectly bridges the gap between neuroscience and the functional application of music. The clinical techniques taught are incredibly structured, practical, and immediately applicable to client rehabilitation. It has significantly expanded my clinical perspective and deepened my appreciation for the profound impact of rhythmic and melodic interventions on the human brain.

I am truly grateful for the opportunity to participate in the Neurologic Music Therapy® training. It was intensive, inspiring and highly valuable. The training deepen my understanding of how music can be used as a structured evidence based therapeutic tool to support functional change in motor, speech/language, cognitive and psychological domains. It also strength my clinical thinking through the TDM™, helping me design more purposeful, measurable and neurologically interventions. The Neurologic Music Therapy® programme has been providing therapy to our stroke patients since Jan 2019. This has been a collaborative effort with our existing therapy team and Chroma and is the first programme of its kind in an acute stroke unit setting in the UK. NMT™ has served to improve the well-being and mental-state of many of our patients at a time which is often so dark.

Neurologic Music Therapy® (NMT™) has been such a pivotal improvement to our rehabilitation program because of the effectiveness in helping patients achieve all areas of function after stroke or brain injury. NMT™ addresses all areas of neuroplasticity including salience, repetition and intensity. If I am working with my patient and I want to increase the patient's engagement and self-drive to stand a little longer, attend a little more, walk a little farther…then I immediately think of NMT™. The efficiency to engage the patient via auditory, visual and tactile stimulation with the instruments increases their attention to task and thus ability to perform motor learning to achieve their mobility and functional goals. Regarding ambulation, I especially look to add NMT™ if the barriers include coordination, apraxia, aphasia, pacing, attention and visual-spatial deficits because with experience I have seen how much quicker I can address these areas with NMT™ by adding auditory cueing via the guitar and visually having the Neurologic Music Therapist™ present to promote upright visual cueing. NMT™ is more effective than traditional PT interventions such as using a metronome app on my phone or having another person cueing the patient to look up. NMT™ provides external feedback in various ways that can be so helpful and motivating to the stroke and brain injury survivors in our program. I cannot emphasize enough how much I support NMT™ for stroke and brain injury recovery. Patients are so much more engaged and it has really impacted their recovery in a positive way.

I have had the privilege of collaborating with Neurologic Music Therapists and have seen firsthand how impactful this therapy can be for patients. As a speech-language pathologist, I’ve observed incredible progress in my patients' cognitive and linguistic skills through music therapy. JY and I worked closely together, tailoring each session to meet the specific goals of our patients. Not only did JY help improve speech, attention, and memory, but he also provided patients with a sense of joy and confidence that extends well beyond the therapy sessions. The integration of Neurologic Music Therapy® into our approach has created a holistic treatment plan that enhances overall progress, and I’m grateful for the positive outcomes it helped our patients achieve.
